Permit applications for St. Johns River Water Management District and Site Plan were received in October 2009. The design for the paved Murrell Road extension is 100% complete and includes a cul-de-sac, sidewalks, paved parking for trail head, and a paved road extension of Murrell Road.
The preliminary estimates for the paved extension of Murrell Road have been received and are under review by Parks Staff and Traffic Engineering. Project is currently under evaluation by Parks & Recreation Staff and Management to determine design suitability for trail construction, or to proceed with project as currently designed by Brad Smith Associates. Project construction is also pending completion of acquiring the remaining easements through Land Acquisition.
The trail designs include the trail head, trail, and a pre-fabricated restroom building. The trail will be 3.5 miles long and will commence from the zoo to Turtle Mound Road.
