How do I become a licensed contractor? You must complete an application and meet the experience requirements. When your application is approved, you may take the exam. Upon receiving a passing grade of 75% or higher, certification may be completed. How do I report an unlicensed contractor? Call Licensing Regulation & Enforcement office at (321) 633-2058 and provide a complete address of the location where the person is working. An inspector will be sent out immediately. Is a contractor licensed and insured? Caller should provide contractor's name and/or business name. Licensing Regulation & Enforcement will check both county and state databases. Should a State contractor be licensed in the County? A State Certified contractor will need an occupational license if they have a business location in Brevard County. For information regarding occupational licence, call (321) 455-1413. A State contractor is required to obtain a Brevard County building permit if performing work in the unincorporated county. The contractor will also need to provide licensing and insurance information to be entered into the Repository System in order to pull a Brevard County building permit. Download the Repository Form. Does a contractor have Worker's Compensation Exemption and what does that mean? Licensing Regulation & Enforcement will check to see if contractor has Worker's Compensation Exemption. It means a contractor has no coverage on his/her employees unless he/she has an additional policy. Licensing Regulation & Enforcement requires an original credit report (not more than 6 months old) from a nationally recognized credit-reporting agency. Credit reports obtained directly from Equifax, Trans Union or Experian will NOT be accepted since they do not provide a search of Federal, State, and County records pertaining to judgments, bankruptcies and tax liens.
