Employment OpportunitiesBrevard County Fire Rescue is an ALS transport agency that hires State of Florida certified Firefighter/Paramedics, Firefighter/ EMTs, and Paramedics. All Firefighter/ EMTs and Paramedics hired must agree to become either paramedic or firefighter certified within Departmental time frames. Tuition is provided by the Department.
Advertising and ApplicationsAdvertising and applications for open positions within the Department are handled by the Brevard County Office of Human Resources. Hiring ProcessBrevard County Fire Rescue normally hires in groups of 10 or more. The Hiring Process normally takes 2-3 days, depending upon the number of applicants. Applicant testing includes written exams for fire and EMS knowledge, physical abilities, essential functions, medical skills, and a formal interview. Applicants will also be required to pass a drug screening and thorough background investigation.
Wages and HoursWages are established by contract between the Board of County Commissioners and the bargaining unit, IAFF Local 2969. For fiscal year 2008/2011, the starting salary for firefighters and paramedics are as follows:
