911 Ambulance (Rescue) |
| Brevard County Fire Rescue (BCFR) has 27 ambulances (referred to as rescues because the personnel assigned to the units are state certified firefighters). All of the rescue units are Advanced Life Support capable and are staffed with two firefighter paramedics. BCFR is the primary provider of emergency medical patient transport throughout Brevard County . BCFR manages it's rescue units as a regional system; this basically means that regardless of the location of an medical emergency, the closest rescue unit is dispatched. Furthermore, in the event of an emergency involving a large number of patients, BCFR can immediately dispatch the required number of rescue units to handle the call as well as move up other units to insure adequate coverage is maintained. |

Fire Engines |
|
|
Brevard County Fire Rescue has 20 Fire Engine stations throughout Brevard
County and are staffed with an Officer and two firefighters. Brevard County
Fire engines respond to a wide variety of emergencies such as medical calls,
vehicle accidents, all fires, and hazardous material incidents.
In 1999, Brevard County voters approved to upgrade our fire engines
to an advanced life support response, which means a paramedic is assigned to
every Brevard County fire engine. Paramedics can give life saving medications
and advanced skills to the injured or ill patient.
One question often asked is "Why do fire engines respond when I call for an
ambulance"?
Brevard County fire engines respond to medical emergencies along with an ambulance
for several reasons. BCFR fire engines can assist the ambulance crew with the
patient (or patients), in some instances, BCFR engines can arrive at the scene
sooner than the ambulance which greatly increases the level of care for the
patients. |

Fire Rescue Vehicles |
|
|
| The apparatus fleet for Brevard County Fire Rescue has seen many many changes over the years. In 1998, Brevard County voters approved a referendum to purchase new fire engines. From this point, 4 new engines will replace 4 existing fire engines. This purchase allows Brevard County Fire Rescue to standardize the fire engine fleet in the department and upgrade the existing fleet with newer equipment and technology. |
