FIRE RESCUE HISTORY
| Prior to 1984, Brevard County Fire Services were divided into 5 separate districts which provided their own fire protection. In addition, the ambulance service was not part of the fire department and 911 emergency ambulance transports throughout Brevard County were provided by private companies. Brevard County Fire Rescue (BCFR) was established as a unified fire rescue agency in 1984 eliminating individual fire districts. BCFR was able to function as one consolidated fire rescue service for all of the unincorporated areas of Brevard County. In 1999, BCFR was selected by the Board of County Commissioners to provide 911 ambulance/rescue transport services to all citizens in Brevard County and Patrick Air Force Base. Since 1984, BCFR has grown from 15 stations to 33 stations and is comprised of both paid and volunteer staff. Brevard County Fire Rescue provides fire protection and first responder medical services to the unincorporated areas of Brevard County in addition to the incorporated areas of Melbourne Village, Palm Shores and West Melbourne. |
