ANNUAL AWARDS RECOGNITION PROGRAM
In August of 1999, Brevard County Fire Rescue implemented the Annual Awards
Recognition Program.
This program was created to recognize those persons for
extraordinary feats or acts in their career
with the Brevard County Fire Rescue.
The following awards are officially bestowed by the Fire Chief.
UNIFORM APPOINTMENTS

Medal/Bar of Honor
This award is the highest award given by the Fire Chief for those who,
In the line of duty, on or off shift, perform an act far above and beyond
the normal call of duty, with risk to life and limb.

Medal/Bar of Valor This award is given by the Fire Chief to those who;
In the line of duty, on or off shift, demonstrate acts of valor not
qualifying for the Medal of Honor.

Wound Bar This award is given by the Fire Chief to those who;
while performing their duties and utilizing all prudent safety
precautions and equipment have suffered a significant injury.

Life Saving Bar This award is given by the Fire Chief to those who;
through prompt and alert action, saved the life of another.
ANNUAL AWARDS

Fire Officer of the Year
An award is given by the Fire Chief for a Fire Officer who has demonstrated a
consistent pattern of efficiency in the execution of their duties.

Career Service Firefighter of the Year
An award is given by the Fire Chief for a career firefighter who has demonstrated a
consistent pattern of efficiency in the execution of their duties.

Dispatcher of the Year
An award is given by the Fire Chief for a dispatcher who has demonstrated a
consistent pattern of efficiency in the execution of their duties.

Firesafety Inspector of the Year
An award is given by the Fire Chief for a Fire Inspector who has demonstrated a
consistent pattern of efficiency in the execution of their duties.

Fire Rookie of the Year
An award is given by the Fire Chief for a new hire recruit who has demonstrated a
consistent pattern of efficiency in the execution of their duties.

Volunteer Firefighter of the Year
An award is given by the Fire Chief for a volunteer firefighter who has demonstrated a
consistent pattern of efficiency in the execution of their duties.

EMS Reservist of the Year
An award is given by the Fire Chief for an EMS Reservist who has demonstrated a
consistent pattern of efficiency in the execution of their duties.

Civilian Employee of the Year
An award is given by the Fire Chief for a civilian employee who has demonstrated a
consistent pattern of efficiency in the execution of their duties.

Tim Mills CommemorativeAward
In 2002 Brevard County Fire Rescue lost Assistant Chief Tim Mills. Assistant Chief Mills
brought to Fire/Rescue integrity, determination, and humor throughout his career.
His character reflected the very best in the fire service and is measuring tool for all of us.
For this reason Brevard County Fire Rescue recognizes one of its own annually to
receive the Tim Mills Commemorative Award.

Meritorious Service Bar This award is given by the Fire Chief to those who;
display unusual thoroughness, determination and initiative while
carrying out their duties and/or demonstrate exceptional acts of
devoted service to the department.

Commendable Service Bar This award is given by the Fire Chief to those who;
perform a commendable act that is unusual in nature and
demonstrates accomplishment and initiative.

Unit Citation Ribbon This award is given by the Fire Chief to those who;

Service Bar (5 Years Service) This award is given by the Fire Chief to those who;
have completed 5 years of service with Brevard County Fire Rescue
while maintaining a satisfactory or equivalent evaluation during that time.
For each successive 5 years, the employee shall receive a
replacement bar with one hash mark for every 5 years of credited service.

Military Service Ribbon This award is given by the Fire Chief to those who;

Community Service Ribbon This award is given by the Fire Chief to those who;
Education Bar This award is given by the Fire Chief to those who; received an
Associates Degree, Bachelors Degree, or Masters Degree related to the career field.

This bar is awarded to members who are assigned to the Honor Guard

This bar is awarded to members who are assigned to the Honor Guard
Field Delivery This award is given by the Fire Chief to those who;

Campaign Ribbons

Campaign Bar (Forestry)
This award is given by the Fire Chief to those who;
perform exemplary fire rescue functions during a significant operation
undertaken by Brevard County Fire Rescue.

Campaign Bar (Hurricane) This award is given by the Fire Chief to those who;
perform exemplary fire rescue functions during a significant operation
undertaken by Brevard County Fire Rescue.
CERTIFICATES
Certificate of Appreciation
A certificate of appreciation is awarded by the Fire Chief who performs an
extraordinary act in the performance of their duties worthy of praise.
Certificate of Achievement
A certificate of appreciation is awarded by the Fire Chief to those who achieve
excellence in their professional endeavors.
