
Objectives
To protect and restore Brevard County’s groundwater and drinking
water supplies through proper management and disposal of hazardous materials,
hazardous waste, and petroleum products.
Section Functions
The Brevard County Natural Resources Management Office (NRMO), Environmental
Remediation and Compliance (ERC) Section, is currently contracted with the Florida
Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to inspect all petroleum
storage facilities in Brevard County and oversee cleanups of petroleum
contamination in Brevard and Indian Rivers Counties in accordance with
Chapters 62-761 and 62-770, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.), the
stationary tank rule and the petroleum contamination cleanup criteria
rule, respectively.
In addition, using fees generated by Business Tax Receipts, the Environmental
Remediation and Compliance Section also inspects potential and known generators
of hazardous waste.
Section Duties
Oversite, Review, and Remediation of Petroleum Contaminated Facilities
countywide.
- Continue to train all compliance staff on how to provide cost effective
and efficient inspection services.
- Continue to educate and assist facility owners and operators on complying
with State and Federal rules to reduce the number of violations.
- Continue to educate and assist facility owners and operators on pollution
prevention strategies to reduce the number of new releases of hazardous
materials, hazardous waste, and petroleum products.
