Natural Resource’s Environmental Permitting Section's goal is to ensure that all proposed development activities within Brevard County’s unincorporated areas are in compliance with the County Code and Comprehensive Plan as approved and adopted by the Board of County Commissioners. To accomplish this goal, the Environmental Permitting section reviews building permits, residential, commercial and industrial land development, and rezoning applications. They also provide environmental consultations, code enforcement, perform compliance inspections, issue Private Lake and Land Alteration (Borrow Pit), seawall, and rock revetment permits. We reviewed over 14,000 permit applications last year. The staff assist customers in the identification of the natural resources found on properties by reviewing current natural resources maps and performing on-site inspections. We provided over 360 property reviews last year. We also provide technical staff support to the Board of County Commissioners and the Local Planning Agency. The Environmental Permitting Section also enforces all of these ordinances. Staff investigates citizen complaints as they arise and puts an emphasis on education and restoration first. We investigated over 100 enforcement cases last year. Since our primary function is review of proposed developments, we are funded through fees charged to applicants seeking development approval. Environmental regulations can be found here. Permit applications can be found here. You can also download a list of environmental consultants that can perform wetland delineations or other environmental tasks. Scrub Jay area maps are available in a .pdf format when you click here. |
