Who We Are:

The Brevard Delegation of the Commission on the Status of Women was established in 1976. In 1992, it was renamed the Brevard County Commission on the Status of Women(BC-CSW)

BC-CSW consists of 15 voting members(3 appointed by each County Commissioner) and up to 15 non-voting members.

The mission of BC-CSW is to enhance the status of women in Brevard County.

BC-CSW services in an advisory capacity to the Brevard County Commissioners on all matters pertaining to the status and concerns of women.

Effort is made to assure the BC-CSW membership is diverse and represents the women of Brevard County.

What We Do:

The goal is to established and monitor a strategic alliance with county-wide organization and institutions which deal specifically with women's issues. The BC-CSW continues to:

  • Serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners and groups representing special interests or issues concerning women in Brevard County.
  • Identify and recognize the contributions made by women through our Brevard county.
  • Formulate and recommend programs and plans for the coordination of activities of area agencies whose focus is on issues concerning women and families.
  • Submit findings and recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners regarding such matters as are presented to the delegation.

Accomplishments:

Over the years the BC-CSW has accrued an important list of accomplishments.

  • Hosts an annual Women's Resource Fair to provide information on resources available to women in need of services in Brevard County.
  • Initiated the establishment of the Children's Services Council of Brevard County
  • Developed and published a county-wide directory of appointed boards and delegations.
  • Hosted the 1994 annual conference for the state of Florida Commission on the Status of Women.
  • Lobbies and monitors bills affecting the rights and equality of women
  • Recognizes outstanding Brevard County women at the annual "Women of the Year" awards and recognition banquet.
  • Advises the Brevard County Commission about how its specific decisions affect women
