Role of the Code Enforcement Officer

The process begins when a complaint is received by our office and is assigned to a Code Enforcement Officer to investigate. The Officer will investigate complaints received from the public or other governmental agencies regarding violations to County Code. Upon observing a violation, an Officer will document the conditions found on the property by:

  • Visual Observation
  • Field Interviews
  • Written Reports
  • Photograph Evidence

Whenever possible, personal contact is made with the property owner and the resident in order to call their attention to the problem. In all cases, the responsible party is informed of:

  • The Nature of the Violation
  • Corrective Action
  • Administrative Relief/Assistance if available
  • The Enforcement Action that will be taken if the violation is not corrected
  • The date by which the violation must be corrected

Persons responsible for violations are always given a reasonable time to correct them, considering the severity of the infraction. Our ultimate goal is to achieve voluntary compliance.
