Committee - Volunteer Opportunities
The Brevard Commission on Aging encourages the participation of individual citizens,
organizations, and service providers in the planning process. There are many
opportunities to support the mission of the Brevard Commission on Aging through volunteer
service on a committee or task force. If you would like to volunteer, contact
the Brevard County Housing and Human Services Department at (321) 633-2007.
Work Groups
The Work Groups are responsible for conducting an in depth study of
issues important to supporting a quality lifestyle for Brevard County's elder
citizens.
Task force groups have been convened in the
following subject areas:
- Transportation
Increase mobility options through improve roadway design, pedestrian friendly community development, and expand public transit service.
- Long Term Care
Provide a sufficient level of service to support at risk older adults in a setting appropriate to their level of care. Promote quality of care in the delivery of institutional long-term care services.
- Health & Wellness
Promote a healthy lifestyle that encourages the appropriate use of medical services and focuses on the social, emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual aspects of well being.
- Elder Rights / Advocacy
Advocate for resources and actions to meet the needs of older adults.
- Housing
Increase the supply of affordable housing that is structurally designed to meet changing physical capabilities with community surroundings that support independence and offer opportunities to age in place.
- Disaster Preparedness
Increase the understanding of preparedness issues and promote awareness of services. Integrate the functional aspects of information and referral delivery.
- Employment / Volunteerism
Provide opportunities for employment. Promote financial, retirement, and long-term care planning.
