From outlying rural communities to suburban residential areas, to downtown historic Titusville, the North Area serves a broad spectrum of interests through a wide variety of parks and services. Bounded by the Volusia County line on the North, and State Road 528 on the South, the North Area extends to the west County line along the St. Johns River and east to the Indian River. It includes the City of Titusville along with the unincorporated areas of Scottsmoor, Mims, Bellwood, Port St. John, Sharpes, and Canaveral Groves.
Responding to widespread interest in recreation in North Brevard, the City of Titusville, School Board of Brevard County and Brevard County Board of county Commissioners formed a partnership in 1966 to supply parks and recreation services. The County Parks and Recreation Department operates both city and county parks, with joint use of school and park facilities. Oversight is provided by a citizen board – the North Brevard Commission on Parks and Recreation. This board acts in an advisory capacity, making recommendations on a range of issues to the City, County and School Board. Open to the public, meetings are held at 5 pm on the second Thursday of each month at the Brevard County Government Complex-North on South Street.
