Brevard County Housing and Human Services Department, Parks and Recreation Department, Library Services Department and Criminal Justice, in conjunction with the Brevard County Health Department, manage and staff five special needs shelters and/or assisted care facilities in the event of a disaster, natural or other

Brevard County Board of County Commissioners is empowered to declare a Local State of Emergency to protect the safety of the public when necessary.

Once a Local State of Emergency has been declared, the Office of Emergency Management in coordination with the County Manager will determine the protective actions necessary to mitigate the impact of the threat.

The Special Needs Shelters may be activated under direction from the Office of Emergency Management in the event of an evacuation of a potentially impacted area is recommended or ordered.
