The Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands Program’s Barrier Island Sanctuary Land Managment and Education Center is centrally located in heart of the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge in South Melbourne Beach. The 34 acre sanctuary invites visitors to explore the diverse habitats of the barrier island. The Barrier Island Center provides hands-on educational experiences for visitors to the Refuge through interactive exhibits, nature films, special programs and a 1-mile long “dune-to-lagoon” nature trail. The Center also has an accessible ocean view boardwalk and picnic tables and is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 9 - 5. Admission to the Barrier Island Center is free.

The Barrier Island Management and Education Center partners with the Sea Turtle Conservancy who provide support for gift shop operations, volunteer coordination, and educational outreach including guided sea turtle hikes in June and July. Registration for upcoming 2015 turtle walks will begin May 1st. The cost is $15.00 per person. Visit www.seaturtlewalks.org to make your reservations.
