County Commissioner Chuck Nelson has been a resident of Merritt Island for over 20 years. In 2010 he was elected to his second term to the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners representing District Two. Prior to that, he was a Public Service Professional with over 32 years experience, 14 of those years in Brevard County as Director of Parks and Recreation. He was instrumental in guiding improvement of Brevard’s parks to the high quality system we enjoy today.
During his term in office, Chuck has served as Chairman of the Board in 2008 and again in 2012. He has served on numerous committees including the Aerospace Career Development Council, Jail Case Flow Working Group, East Central Florida Regional Planning Council, Economic Development Commission, Election Canvassing Board, Extension Advisory Council, Indian River Lagoon Natural Estuaries Program, Congress of Regional Leaders, the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization, Space Coast Growth Management Coalition, Space Coast Regional Centra-Plex Board, St. Johns River Alliance, Space Coast Tourism Development Council and the Value Adjustment Board.
In April 2010, he was recognized as one of the 100 Most Powerful People on the Space Coast by Spacecoast Business Magazine. In addition to meeting constituents in his Merritt Island office and at various homeowner meetings, Commissioner Nelson holds monthly walk-ins at the Cocoa and Cocoa Beach Public Libraries, providing a variety of opportunities for citizens to share their thoughts and concerns.
Chuck is an avid boater, fisherman, and a member of the Florida Sport Fishing Association. He received a degree in Health Physical Education & Recreation from the University of South Florida. He resides on Merritt Island with his wife, Gale and has one son.
County Commissioner District Two includes Kennedy Space Center, Merritt Island, Port Canaveral, Cape Canaveral, Avon by the Sea, Cocoa Beach, Snug Harbor, portions of Cocoa, Rockledge, and Patrick AFB.
